ASSMANG'S POSITION IN RELATION TO 10 ALLEGED MANGANISM CASESAssmang Limited does not believe that any workers at its Cato Ridge plant have manganism, on the basis of expert medical diagnoses received. Assmang has fully supported all employees who were initially diagnosed with manganism. From the time they were put off work, in some cases more than a year ago, they have received full salaries and benefits, as well as medical assistance from Assmang.

ASSMANG FURNACE UP AND RUNNINGAssmang Limited has resumed ferromanganese production on Furnace 2 at its Cato Ridge Works. This follows a small burn through on the shell of the furnace on Saturday, 19 April 2008. Repairs to the furnace were completed yesterday following which the Department of Labour lifted its prohibition order.

ASSMANG CATO RIDGE FURNACE EXPECTED TO BE REOPENED SOON
Assmang Limited is in discussion with the Department of Labour regarding the lifting of the prohibition on the operation of Furnace 2 at its Cato Ridge Works. The prohibition was imposed as from 22 April 2008 following a small burn through on the shell of the furnace. . Assmang Cato Ridge Works had shut down the furnace on Saturday, 19 April 2008 immediately following the burn through.

TWO MORE FURNACES RESUME PRODUCTION AT ASSMANG
Four out of six furnaces at Assmang Limited’s Cato Ridge Works are now in ferromanganese production, following the Department of Labour’s lifting of the prohibition order on two more furnaces on Friday, 11 April 2008. The furnaces were started up on Monday, 14 April 2008.

FURNACE RESTARTED AT ASSMANG CATO RIDGE WORKS
Assmang Limited has resumed ferromanganese production with the recommissioning of one of its six furnaces at its Cato Ridge Works, outside Durban, KwaZulu Natal. The Department of Labour gave the go-ahead on Friday, 4 April 2008 for the first furnace to be recommissioned.
