Philosophy

Assmang is committed to conducting its business in a manner that takes into account the social, economic and natural environment in which it operates, and to integrating environmental management into all its activities.

Objectives

• Promote the education, training and motivation of employees to raise their environmental awareness.
• Conduct all activities in an environmentally responsible manner to ensure prevention of pollution.
• Establish environmental management systems at all operations, including environmental auditing and monitoring these systems.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, environmental legislation, company policies and philosophy.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with employees and all affected parties, government departments and the public.

Environmental strategy

For the effective implementation of our Environmental Policy the following strategy has been adopted:

• Include environmental impact assessments and environmental management programmes in all new projects on proposed or existing operations;
• Integrate waste management, waste reduction and pollution control with all operations;
• Develop awareness of environmental trends and technological approaches to minimise negative impacts and implement viable alternatives in order to ensure continuous improvement;
• Conserve natural resources, including habitats and ecosystems by proper stewardship;
• Effectively utilise energy and water resources;
• Regularly monitor air, water and soil pollution and assess residual risk;
• Rehabilitate, where practicable, areas disturbed by operations on an ongoing phased basis.
